Hot to Trot: Best Dressed list runner-up Milano Imai is still beading her latest creation for Melbourne Cup Day. The millinery student from Mermaid Waters took out the Cup Day Fashions on the Field award at the Gold Coast Turf Club in 2011, at the Brisbane track in 2012 and at the Prime Minister’s Cup Day earlier his year. She’s hoping to add to that list this year in Melbourne, but closer to home scores of hopefuls will flock to Fashions on the Field at the Gold Coast Turf Club. NRL champion Scott Prince, the Gold Coast Bulletin’s Rose Sadleir and boutique owner Jay Pask will judge the competition.
“It’s important to take note of what is in season, what trends and what colours are happening, and then put your own twist on it to show your own personality,” Milano says.
“I adore The Hat Store in Robina, which is where I found this beautiful pink and orange one that I’ve crafted this outfit around. My favourite brand for the races is Cue. I love mixing and matching skirts and tops and I think it’s really important not to wear the same thing as someone else which is why I love to make my own additions to outfits with sequins or sleeves or alterations.”
