Project Description

This is my first ever embellished piece I created.
For my year 11 Home Economics subject we had to sew a corset that was fully lined with boning and an invisible zip.
This was a challenge for me being not the best sewer at the time, but the idea of embellishing the corset was the most exciting part and I rushed through the construction of the corset.

I remember all the girls in my class creating cute pink and blue corsets out of cotton but I wanted a fancy corset and made mine out of gold satin. I spent hours at home the next few weeks sewing around the shapes of flowers, painting them with gold and fraying them individually with my quick unpick which took a lot longer than I thought.

I purchased pearl beads and rhinestones and stared putting everything together. I loved every moment of it. I think I spent triple the time everyone else did on their corset but for me it such a passion that I couldn’t stop working on it.

At the end of the year school fashion show together with my Home Economics teacher we made a full floor length skirt out of curtain fabric and paired it with my corset to look like a wedding dress.
I got to be the end act of the show and I remember after wards being asked by many girls in my grade to design their formal dresses for them.
