Project Description

Whilst I was studying fashion design at TAFE in 2013 an opportunity arose for students to enter in the Queensland Brides competition category ‘Calico Brides’.

Students were to use up to 10 meters of Calico to create a bridal gown in anyway of their choice.
I created a gown constructed of a mesh base which I used to sew Calico and lace formed into various shapes onto and a full circle skirt that had braids of calico cascading down from the waist band.

The first competition heat was held in Brisbane and students from all over Queensland attended. We provided our own models and did their hair and makeup.

From all the entrants on the day they selected ten to go on to the finals which were held at the Brisbane Convention Centre. I was lucky enough to be picked as a top 10 finalist.
