Millinery Market – Choosing your Terms of Hire/Sale2018-03-22T23:59:34+10:00

Millinery Market – Choosing your Terms of Hire/Sale

When creating a new hat listing, one of the dropdown fields that you need to select is your terms of hire/sale. Owners can choose one of three standard terms; flexible, moderate or strict, which are defined in the following sections.

Millinery Market uses standard terms to simplify the process of creating a new hat listing and to give a consistent customer experience.

The standard terms cover the following items:

  • minor damage
  • major damage/replacement
  • cancellations
  • late return
  • refunds

Standard Terms of Hire

Lenders can choose from the following three standard terms. The major damage fee, late return fee and cancellation fees all increase as you go from flexible to strict terms.

Terms of Hire – Flexible:

Any minor damage or stain will incur up to a $50 fee to cover repairs. Major damage or loss of item will incur 60% of specified retail value. Free to cancel before hat has been posted, no cancellations after hat has been posted. Late return (over 3 days late) will incur a $15 late fee. Refund will only be provided if hat arrives damaged or arrives late after your race day. Return postage must be tracked and at renter’s expense.

Terms of Hire – Moderate:

Any minor damage or stain will incur up to a $50 fee to cover repairs. Major damage or loss of item will incur 70% of specified retail value. Free to cancel before hat has been posted, no cancellations after hat has been posted. Late return fee is $5 per day. Refund will only be provided if hat arrives damaged or arrives late after your race day. Return postage must be tracked and at renter’s expense.

Terms of Hire – Strict:

Any minor damage or stain will incur up to a $50 fee to cover repairs. Major damage or loss of item will incur 80% of specified retail value. $20 cancellation fee if cancel before hat has been posted, no cancellation after hat has been posted. Late return fee is $10 a day. Refund will only be provided if hat arrives damaged or arrives late after your race day. Return postage must be tracked and at renter’s expense.

Standard Terms of Sale

Sellers can choose from the following two standard terms. The main difference is the returns policy.

Sale Terms – Flexible:

Free to cancel before item has been shipped. If you are not satisfied with your purchase, you may return it unworn, unused and as sold within 7 days of receiving the hat. The returned item must be in its original and saleable condition and packaging. Return postage must be tracked and at buyer’s expense. Once I have received and inspected the hat, I will refund the cost of the hat, excluding postage.

Sale Terms – Strict:

There is no return or refund available unless the item is faulty, so please choose carefully. If you would like more photos of the hat from different angles or if you are unsure as to whether the colour will suit please message me. If an item is damaged/defective, please contact me within 3 days of receiving the hat to make a claim.

Why should sellers consider accepting returns?

Some buyers may be hesitant to buy a hat without trying it on if they know the seller doesn’t accept returns. Giving customers a 7 day window where they can try it on and return the hat if they aren’t happy can result in a lot more sales. This is why companies like ASOS offer free returns on all of their products.
